Welcome to Dr. Kate Brilakis' Learning Portal

     Kingdom Fungi

  Protists we will explore include:
       ciliates: paramecium
                      spirostonum
                      stentor
       flagellates:
                      euglena
                      volvox
       pseudopods:
                      amoeba

                   rotifer

 potato cells
w/starch vesicles =
leucoplasts

             rhizopus = black bread mold

   Kingdom Plantae

red pepper cells with stored carotenoids in chromoplasts

        Domain Bacteria

     we'll be observing yeast
          and rhizopus

                we'll also look at:
potato, onion, red pepper

     first up...saccharomyces = yeast

     Kingdom Fungi

          Domain Archae

       Domain Eukarya

  Kingdom Animalia

     onion cells
lack chloroplasts
but exhibit stored starch granules

            Microscopic Organisms

   nematode

          red pepper

     Kingdom Plantae

   Kingdom Animalia

  Kingdom Protista

  Kingdom Protista

   we'll be observing Elodea

in addition to the structures found in animal cells, plant   cells exhibit:
 1. a cell wall
 2. a large central water vacuole
 3. chloroplasts (w/chlorophyll)
